Redwood Garden Bridges A bridge greatly enhances the garden and provides vantage points from which to view your wonderful garden, pond and koi. The prevailing theory is that wooden bridges built close to the water surface are the simplest and most effective, particularly in an informal garden. Most koi purists recommend that you only use short post bridges with a single rail except where it is necessary to use the double rails for kids since the view is generally better with a short post bridge.

Garden bridges come in several different styles. When choosing a style, you must consider why you’re installing one. Is it for a koi pond, creek, stream, pool or yard? Does it need to be a heavy duty bridge that may have a small tractor going over it? Or is it a pedestrian bridge? Do you want it constructed in redwood or composite material. A lot of bridges I build are to replace the current one that needs replacing. A lot of the times the customer will opt for the composite material because it lasts and it is maintenance free. Once you determine the type of bridge you want, then you have to decide whether you want one with rails made of ropes, no rails, one or two rails, curved rails, spindles, short posts or no posts!

Garden bridges can range from 4’ – 40’ long and should be at least 36” wide. Half Spindle bridges can range from 4’ – 40’ long. Spindle bridges can range from 4’ – 40’ long. No post foot bridges span 4’ – 40’ long.
